Medtronic pump yes or no?
I want to know people's opinions of Medtronic pumps, the company, and what ever other pros and cons associated with it.
Right now I own the Animas Ping pump but I'm not supper happy with the company now and want to know what Medtronic has over Animas. |
I have been on the Medtonic MiniMed since December 2011. It is my first pump I have not a thing to complain about yet. I suggest you do a Google search: 'compare insulin pumps' to get the ins and outs. I did it. Medtronics has been around forever in comparison with other pumps. I have no need to call on my rep as my pump functions and I received very good training from my specialst doctor I am happy. Good luck and best wishes

I have been with Medtronic for 10 years and I have nothing to complain about.
|
I've been on the MiniMed for 12 years now and don't have any complaints except the pricing of supplies, but that will be with all of them. I'm on my third pump and only once had a problem with one of them, Medtronic was very helpful and quick in sending me a replacement. I've nothing but good to say about them, and I also just started using the Mio infusion sets and love them!
|
What are the new infusion sets?
|
I don't know how new they are but they are called Mio and they are a self contained unit meaning it has an inserter built in to each one that you throw away. They're really easy to use. I don't have to use extra tape on them to keep them stuck on either.

Medtronic paradigm is my third and FAVORITE pump of all. I used the deltec cozmo prior to this and another that was pulled off the market before that. The quality and durability is far superior to the other pumps I've used and the cgm capabilities are pretty awesome, although pretty expensive too. I highly recommend the paradigm!!!

I love minimed! They are always available and extremely efficient whenever I call them or receive supplies/replacement pumps! I am thankful to them every time I call!! Pump itself works great. I have been using different minimed pumps for over 12 years now and never had a problem! Happy shopping!

I have had a minimed/medtronic pump for 22 years. I wouldn't switch! They are very responsive when you have questions. The pump has lots if features to help with control. I just added the continuous glucose monitor and it has been easy to link them together. I just recommended one to a good friend

I have been on an insulin pump since 1996 and on a Medtronic pump since 2000. I really like their 24/7 help line. One time on a holiday weekend my pump started giving me weird messages. The person called me back and spent a lot of time helping me diagnose what was happening- for some reason my pump was failing after i had had it for a year. On top of it being a holiday weekend it was a Saturday afternoon in California. They fed ex'd a new pump to me and hired a special carrier to deliver it from the airport 2 hours away to me at work on a Sunday! They covered the cost of everything. For that customer service experience I will stay with them for a very long time.

Animas user
Hello everyone I got started using an Animas pump in 2004, and I liked it back then, but its broken in the same spot several times and it doesn't have nearly the features that Metronic does, and my endo Dr. just recently suggested that I get the newest version that Metronic has. I am excited when I look at all that it has to offer in comparison to Animas. I can't believe how far behind the times the animas pumps are. Plus now hearing everyone saying good things I feel even better about switching.

I was on the insulin pump for years. But I no longer trust the Metronic Company. Their sales lady actually lied about my cost to upgrade, then the roller coaster of bad behavior on their part. I was insulted, & had to pay for return shipments. I did like the pump, but the hassle of these people just caused so much stress that I have had to switch companies. I don't like to complain about things like this but be forewarned. Product good yet employees just to much of a bad thing. Good luck

Love my paradigm 722...I've had it for 4 years and will be getting a new one soon. Highly reccomend Medtronic!

Insulin pump
I have been on the Medtronic pump for about 10 years and I find it works great. I also use the constant glucose monitoring so it feeds directly to the insulin pump and my A1c's are now about 6.2
Good response when I have questions or order supplies. |
Love my Minimed. Have had no problems with service.

I have used minimed for almost 10 years now, and the only reason. I've stayed this long is because they have the only pump with integrated CGM. Their customer service agents are most helpful when my pump is dead and needs replacing, but otherwise I can tell them more about my pump than they can. I've managed to kill 4 in as many years- one with so-called 'static', one with sweat, one from running a marathon in the rain, and only one from actually being legitimatley stupid and hopping in a lake without remembering to disconnect.
My next pump willl definitely be waterproof, even if it doesn't have a CGM option. Maybe I'm picky, but I also want to be able to look up and pay my account balance online, although I will give them credit for their most recent website upgrade- it's much more user-friendly than it used to be. Carelink- their online program that downloads info off your pump- makes some useful reports but is a little cumbersome. The other best reason for staying with them is that with so many other minced users, I've got a pretty good local supply network and on multiple occasions I've either loaned out or borrowed supplies from local minimed users in a pinch. I suspect all companies and pps have their upsides and downsides, but I'm planning to jump ship as soon as my insurance will help cover a new one. |
I've been on a 722 since 2006. I think they are GREAT!!!!!

Been on Medtronic Minimed for 3yrs. My first pump. No complaints on overall operation or durability. I'm an active scout leader with my son so this thing has been everywhere - camping, hiking, biking, horse riding, canoing, caving, cold weather camping. Wear shorts to bed and keep it in the pocket so I've slept on it more often than not.
Cons are due to my age and the toll of diabetes. Can't really hear the warning beeps any more and have to use the backlight almost all the time to read the small font on screen. Will probably get another one next year when it is time to renew just because the support is there. |
I am 36 years old and my son is 18. We are both diabetics type 1. We both have been with the medtronic insulin pumps for over 5 years. We like them and recommend them.

I didn't do so well

Medtronic
I have a 7 yr. old with diabetes and he had a Medtronic Mini Med for 2 years. It worked great and we have few complaints. However, he is a rambunctious little boy and needed something that gave him a bit more freedom from the 16-24" tube always attached to his body so we ended up on the wireless Insulet OmniPod. It, too, has it flaws but we're much happier and we have far less equipment to carry around. Most importantly, HE's much happier with his new-found freedom from the tube!
Either way, infest in Mastisol. It helps the mesh fabric adhere to the skin much better than the adhesive that comes on the backing of the infusion set. |
I know this is an older thread, but I thought it was interesting because I went from Medtronic to Animas.
Medtronic is a great company, but I really hate the fact that they charge you for a loaner pump if you go on vacation. Why should I have to pay just in case your equipment fails while I'm on vacation? The other thing? I've had issues with my pump and because it was a holiday weekend, couldn't get a new one shipped to me until the following Wednesday. These particular issues had to do with the buttons getting wet and "sticking" - so I was pumpless for days, and had to use Lantus. Animas doesn't charge for loaner pumps, and their customer service is great 24/7. Best of all, biggest plus for me, their pump is 100% waterproof! Animas also has a color screen - Medtronic is still sort of stone age looking. You can get ANY infusion set to ANY pump for the most part so that shouldn't really sway you. Probably the ONLY thing I miss about Medtronic is the bolus wizzard. On the Animas pump you can add a BG to your carb boluses, but you can't add carbs to your BG correctional boluses. Also, it doesn't take into account how much insulin you already have on board. While I miss these things, I absolutely love that my Animas pump is way cooler looking and more durable. I can wear it on long rides or runs and sweat all over the thing, or wear it in the rain without a single worry. Also, don't let the integrated CGM sway you either - it's way more painful and less accurate than the Dexcom. And Animas is currently working on integrating the Dexcom sensors with their pumps and you can upgrade to the new pump for just $99 once it's out. I was on Medtronic 722 and the Medtronic CGM (such a pain as it always screams when you're out of range) for years before switching to the Animas and Dexcom - I carry around an extra device but it's so worth it because I can wear it for twice as long, it's less painful and way more accurate. Dexcom even has the new G4 out now, which is 30% even more accurate than the older Seven model - I'm upgrading to it in April, can't wait. |
I've been on a insulin pump for about a year and I've had Medtronics mini pump and it works great but I've had one problem my insulin pump quit working on me out of now where but they fly one out to me the same day they r great with the customer Service I hope u cons side getting med Tronics
