My type II turning into type I?
I'm hoping this is the proper forum for this topic...
My name is Emilee, I'm 17 and I was diagnosed as a Type II diabetic 3 years ago. A lot of my family deals with diabetes, so it wasn't that difficult to change my diet and adjust. At first, I controlled purely with diet, then about a year ago I was put on metformin (500mg a day) and was all evened out. My BG levels have been steadily rising with no change in diet(fasting BG is like 190), and upping my meds doesn't seem to be helping. Is it possible for a young person's diabetes to start off this way and turn into Type I? I've talked with my mother, a nurse, about this extensively, and she feels the same way as I (that I'm turning to type I) because I have NO indicators of type II diabetes. I'd just love some advice? |

Hi Emilee;
Welcome to the Forum! Were you over weight at the time of your Type 2 diagnosis? Have you considered the possibility of Type 1.5?
