Cool gastric sleeve surgery

Has anyone had gastric sleeve to get rid of type 2? I'm having this done next month. My Dr promised me that this evil disease would be reversed and that I'd never need medication again (I take a small dose of Glipizide.) Please keep me in your prayers.
I told the doctor if I ever had to shoot up....I'd commit suicide....no, I'm not joking, Being labled as a diabetic is my absolute worst nightmare, I am needle phobic and could never live like that with absolutely no quality of life....I'd rather be happy and 6 feet under.

Just curious if you've had the surgery yet and how much counseling/evaluation you have had. I know a couple of folks who had it and did wellngorcabout a year

I had gastric bypass in Dec 2006 which reversed my diabetes and I lost about 100#. Over these 10yrs I have gained back about 45 & in the last month had to go back on metformin. I'm struggling to get the weight off again plus some and keep my blood sugar levels in range. So far so good. Praying for success with your surgery.

I had the gastric sleeve surgery 4/28/16. Two weeks prior I had to do an Optifast liquid diet. The highest my sugar went was 110. This morning it was 77. I'm down about 17 lbs now (since before the Optifast.) my goal is to lose 60 lbs. I had a lapband for 10 years then it started giving me a lot of problems and I developed hypothyroidism and started gaining. I found that excerise is the answer to lowering my blood sugar. For the past 11 months I have walked between 2-6 miles every single day. I have 5 dogs so that gives me incentive.
I know I will succeed this time and keep the weight off. Being labeled as a diabetic is my absolute worst nightmare!! I'd much rather a doctor tell me I had terminal cancer (yes I'm dead serious.)

Default gastric sleeve surgery

serialmom12 how are you doing?

I am interested in this procedure and went to a few seminars about it but never went through with it. I am type 2 but on a 70/30 insulin. I am tired of this disease like you wouldn't believe and I cant seem to get my weight down.
I have been told it would benefit me to do the bypass instead of the sleeve but I know a lot of people that have had the sleeve and it was successful for weight but they didn't have diabetes.

I am 6'2 and on May 3rd I was weighed at 297. My A1c was a 9.6.

Im doing well. Down 21 lbs so far. Sugar has been up and down (mostly down,) but I'm still taking a tiny amount of glipizide until I lose at least 10 more lbs. my pre op a1c was 5.7 (that was my last 4 readings,) and BG was 84. I'll deny to the bitter end that I was ever diabetic I still think my was a drama queen and pill pusher. I've since changed PCP's and this new dr agrees with me. He won't prescribe any meds unless your a1c is over 6.5

Im looking into gastric sleeve. My Endocrinologist told me that I could reverse type 2 if I had it and lost the weight. Im scared because I have an almost 2 yr old daughter and I want to be around a long time for her. Praying for direction and wisdom in making the surgery decision. I had a friend who died from gastric bypass complications so that's why it scares me but I also know a few people who have done well with it and a few who have gained back the weight they lost from it. Right now im trying to find a good counselor who deals with food issues because I know if I don't deal with emotional eating and overeating no surgery will help me in the long run. Best wishes and prayers that your surgery goes well and you are successful!
