Smile New to diabetes - Meal & snack ideas PLEASE!

I have just been diagnosed with Gestational diabetes. I know I'm suppose to be watching my carbs. I am meeting with a dietitian next week sometime, but figured I would ask on here for your favorites or ideas for meals and snacks, or your favorite brands. I am craving fruits and have been my whole pregnacy. I have to limit those for obvious reasons.

You can have fruits, but make sure of what you choose. Different types of apples, for instance, have different carb values. Some are very high, in grams of carbs, while others are some what lower. In short, choose your fruits well, I try to stay away from bananas, as they are very bad for me. Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV).

Have you considered celery as a snack and maybe kick it up a notch with some peanut butter or low cal cream cheese. Or you could try, in moderation, dry roasted almonds at 5.5g carbs per ounce.

Default 5g Ole Brand Tortilla...so I made and awesome Quesadilla~!!!



Today I discovered Ole Brand Tortilla wrap. The one I purchased is the spinach and herb flavored tortilla. They are flour but they have 0 sugar and 5gms of carbs, and 71 calories per serving.

For dinner I made an awsome Quesadilla using grilled onions, mushrooms and roasted pepper, chicken, spinach and 2% swiss. I served it with a homemade pico de gallo and a dallop of sour cream.

This by far was one of the most satisfying and enjoyable meals with not alot of carbs or guilt.

Hi Eppie,

I also have gestational diabetes... When I met w/my nutritionist they told me to stay away from anything white--i.e white bread, white rice, flour, starchy food. Whole wheat or multigrain is good but each brand has different servings amounts, sugar/serving, and carbs/serving. What you want to look for when you shop is the "Total Carbs %." Depending on how much Total Carbs you can have per meal, you will be able to breakdown how much you can eat. I'm limited to fruits only during snack time and usually w/a serving of protein. For breakfast I'll have a single serving of Sara Lee 100% Classic Wheat toast, w/Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh Smoked Turkey Breast (5 slices), sprinkle of Kraft 2% 4 Cheese, 1 tsp of mayo, a cup of Lipton Natural Lemon Tea w/1 Splenda packet. For a snack I'll have string cheese and 17 small red grapes Also, walking after every meal really helps me bring my blood sugar level down. Once you see your nutritionist you'll have a better idea of what to eat, how much, and when. It's a little frustrating and confusing right now but it'll get better! Default Yogurts

Hi, can anyone recommend any good yogurts suitable for type 1? I've been having the muller light yogurts ? Just trying to take control of my diabetes and lose weight, and yogurts are a good go to. Just want to make sure I'm not eating something that's really bad xx
