I was dx in Feb. My family practitioner started me on Metformin 1000 mg tablets. Building me up from initially half a tablet once a day at meals to what I am currently taking - 1tablet twice a day. Is this dosage the norm? I have a friend who is T2 who is a much larger person than I, who takes 500mg daily. I have been experiencing diarrhea, nasaeua, sharp pains in my stomach and headaches. I don't want to go against what the doctor has prescribed, but also don't want to be over medicated either. When I went to the pharmacy to fill my prescription the pharmacist was not able to completely fill if stating my insurance company would not cover such a large order. Granted that was prescribed in early Feb to get me through to see the endrocrinologist in May.

If you were taking too much metformin your blood sugar would be too low. Hopefully you are checking that a couple hours after meals. If too low let Dr know.

Brick and mortar pharmacies are restricted to filling 30 days of a prescriptions. Mail Oder can do 90 days if the rx is written that way.

I have been monitoring my blood sugar daily and it has been dropping except when I occasionally over indulge or do a no-no. However, my symptoms of headaches and diarrhea are so severe that I end up only taking one of the1000 mg instead of the two. I work in a call center and can't just get up and run to the bathroom.

I take 1000 ml a day of Metformin as well. I have experienced the symptoms you were talking about. I have found two things. First you have to take your Metformin with meals. If you are still have the same symptoms it can be the particular manufacturer of that pill. If you can get a different manufacturer and take with meals the problems can subside.

I too had the same issues with stomach pain, etc. I take 1000 mg 2x a day with meals but my doctor changed to extended release which helped quite a bit.
