I am a 47 year old male just diagnosed with type 2. I only weigh 175 and I am 5'9" so i am not over weight. I am having problems getting my numbers down below 100. Only on metformin 500mg ounce a day. Totally cut out alcohol and almost all sugar. Need advice on carb counting. Help!

I was recently diagnosed with t2d as well. I was able to get mine down, but it has taken a month to do so. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit a Diabetic Nutritionist and she gave me some guidelines to follow.
30-45 carbs per meal 1800cals per day 1/2 plate for veggies 1/4 for protein and 1/4 for carbs (still keep carb #'s under 45 per meal lite low carb snack between meals She also told me strictly no bananas, no watermelon. Also if you are forced to eat on the road as I am due to a lot of traveling with work. There is a pamphlet called "life in the fast lane" It has the carb values for a lot of dining out choices. You would be amazed at the carb and sugar values from one hamburger joint to another. There are a lot for good and bad food choices out there so chose wisely and never be afraid to ask for help. Your life could very well depend on it. |
