Newly diagnosed diabetic
Well, I'm 32...I live in Houston, tx....I'm not really overweight but I did have a horrible diet...basically ate what I wanted...and didn't really exercise much.
I went to my doctor October 24 because a lot of my co-workers were saying I looked really thin...of course I couldn't really tell....but I had been really thirsty and peeing a lot and was really lethargic but I didn't think much of it...so I get to the doctor and explain my symptoms and so they checked my blood sugar...it was 368...and they explained I was in diabetic acidosis and that I needed to go to the ER. So I went to the ER and ended up spending 3 nights in the hospital....2 nights in ICU on an insulin drip having my blood sugar tested once an hour. I was pretty overwhelmed with all of it...having to give myself shots, what to eat, how it's going to affect my job since I do rotating shift work. Luckily I have a great girlfriend to help me adjust. I will say since I've been taking insulin and eating right I'm feeling much better!!! I'm still waiting on the results from my blood work to find out what type I am...hoping for type 2...but I won't be disappointed if I'm type 1. Overall the shots aren't that bad...my vision is still adjusting and I'm hoping it adjusts soon since my up close vision is terrible now...I read online it takes maybe 3-4 weeks to adjust. I've been waking up having my blood sugar around 130-140. What does everyone do with their needles when you go to a restaurant? Do you give yourself a shot in the bathroom or while your sitting at the table? Anyways I just figured I'd introduce myself and tell my story!! |

Welcome to the Forum!
I generally just put the used needles in my pocket or my kit and take them home to the sharps container. I generally go to the restroom for the shot. It wouldn't bother me to take it at the table, but I don't want to freak some child or elderly lady out. Good luck with your control and management.
