#53: Being Engaged

Why yes, being engaged IS awesome! It’s hard to believe I’ve already been engaged for a month, but time is already moving quickly on my wedding planning journey. I think there is a certain sense of comfort that comes from being engaged that wasn’t there when I was just dating. The future with Erik seems much more real and certain than it did before, and it’s really exciting. Not that you have to be engaged (or even married) to have a future with someone – I know plenty of people who are in long-term relationships with their significant other – but for me, marriage to a man that I love and who loves me is something I wanted. I know I’m a lucky girl. Having a shiny rock doesn’t hurt either…

#54: History

I have always been a history junkie. It was my favorite class in high school and I’m like to watch the documentaries on the History Channel when something piques my interest. If I have a choice between going to an old, historical village or city in Europe and relaxing on the beach in some tropical paradise, you better believe I’d rather be traipsing through ruins or picturing how a family lived four hundred years ago. Over the *Memorial Day weekend, Erik and I went upstate to Hyde Park where we visited the homes of F.D.R. and Eleanor Roosevelt. It was wonderful to step back in time for a bit and imagine how the leaders who shaped our country (and world!) lived while they were alive. *The similarities between the world F.D.R. lived in, with the depression and a banking system gone wrong, is remarkably similar to what we are going through today. As they say, if you don’t learn from history, you’re doomed to repeat it.
