Hi all! I'm hoping you could maybe give me some insight. I was diagnosed a year ago with Type 2. Ever since then, I've been working with my Dr to try and get my sugars under control. My A1C keeps climbing from month to month (up to a 10.4) and my sugars average in the 300s (today before breakfast 353). I'm on metformin, glyburide, januvia and I just started insulin today. Why won't it come down? I go to the gym and I watch my intake. I'm worried that if the insulin "works" that I will just fall from a 300 to around a 100 and just feel awful. Thoughts? Thanks!

Just continue to see doctor. And dont give up. The single most important and helpful thing you can do is DOCUMENTATION. Its a pain in the butt but well worth the effort. GB a great help. Record your bs's and use the note part as well. Record time,bs, any meds you took including insulin. The more you check it the better. Try to check it before breakfast, lunch, dinner and at bedtime. That way dr can tell more about whats going on. Its very difficult for a dr to diagnose on just the results he sees in his office. Keep in mind its not forever and its for your benefit. Also understand everything you do, eat, or drink affect diabetes. Including exercise, colds, meds including over the counter, and stress. In your diet try to focus on eating proteins. Most new diabetics get it in their heads its sweets and sugar they have to avoid. Not so. Carbs Carbs Carbs. ( course if you're watching carbs you'll be dodging the sugars. But instead of paying close attention to sugar content you'd be better off watching carb contents. Sugar runs bs up alright, but certain carbs run it up and KEEP it up for long periods. And what affects one of us not necessarily all of us. My friend absolutely cant eat pizza although pizza doesnt affect me much. However peas destroy me. Hope in my rambling something was helpful

I was diagnosed ten years ago with an A1C of 8.3 and was supposed to be controlling with diet and exercise, In the last year I let it all slide, and my fasting glucose 4 weeks ago was 263. I went to a nutritionist/naturopath and she put me on a dairy free/grain free diet and my numbers are now incredible. Fasting this morning was 100, yesterday 99, and the day before 102 (even during an incredibly stressful point in my life). I'm allowed most veggies, lots of salad, protein in the way of fish, chicken, turkey, beef, pork, and eggs. Also can have almond butter which I now prefer to peanut butter. Usually put it on an apple for snacks. On, and no more than two fruits a day. Have also dropped weight as well. Good luck. Marlene
