New Type II
A little about me. I am 47, retired Navy and currently working in Kuwait as a contractor.
While back home in Texas a few weeks ago, I went in for a general check up and diagnosed. My A1C was 9.5, I was prescribed Metformin twice a day along with BP meds and testing 3X's. I am not severely overweight, I am 5'8" and 185, most of it beer gut but I understand that I need to drop a few. I'm a desk jockey so I am pretty sedentary. Combine that with being immobile for approximately 12 weeks due to an ankle injury about 6 months ago, I think sped up my inevitable meeting with Mr. D. the 2nd. I am committed to keeping it under control, I have changed my diet to the most recommended, tracking my food with My Fitness Pal. I do however slip now and then (yesterday's taco, tonight's glass of whiskey). I have noticed my numbers fall in the short time I've been on the Metformin but not enough. I need to get moving but I'm so out of shape that just a flight of stairs winds me. I ordered Wii Fit Plus to just do something light to begin with to get the blood flowing. I should receive it next week. I think exercise is the biggest key for me. Wish me luck. Lastly, I'm so happy I found GB, currently using free version, thinking about upgrading. |

Welcome to the Forum!
Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. Good luck with your control and management.
