Hello everyone, I'm Lauren, 19 years old college student and just a lil over a week ago I was diagnosed with type one. At night sometimes my levels go way down compared to when I went to sleep and now that my levels are finally becoming "normal" I'm nervous they ate going to drop too far while I sleep. What's a good level for your blood to be at when you go to sleep? And any other advise is very appreciated. I'm still in bummed shocked stage :/

Welcome to the Forum!
![]() I have found that my fasting levels remain between 70-99 mg/dl, if I can hold my before bed blood sugar between 100-120 mg/dl. However, this all depends on what was eaten for diner, the amount of insulin taken and the amount of exercise before bed. Sometimes a handful of almonds before bed will help fight off the lows. The best advice that I can give you is to urge you to read and study all the information that you can find on your condition. Knowledge and self education are key. Most doctor's and endo's will not take to time to tell you everything that you need to know to successfully manage your condition. Always remember that we are all in this together. If you have questions, we are here! Good luck with your control and management.

everyone is different. I would keep a log and update it as much as possible - Glucose Buddy is great for that
![]() I like to be around 140mg/dL because I get hypoglycemic unawareness in my sleep and have had seizures before. I agree with dano - educate yourself as much as possible - don't be afraid to experiment a little with maybe a bit less insulin or a small snack before bed, etc. When you experiment, it's REALLY important to keep logs and change only one thing at a time to be able to see accurate trends. You might want to consider an insulin pump since that will give you tighter control hour by hour. my .02 - good luck! |

bbb, I would look at what you're eating for dinner or a before bed snack. if there's a lot of fat or protein in it, you likely go to bed at a good number but rise throughout the night. on insulin pumps, there's a specific "extended bolus" feature for this exact thing... a little more difficult to manage with just injections...
