Default Lantus Solostar

I was told to take one injection at bedtime... 18 units. I was having extreme lows in a.m...40's, 50's. highs in afternoon early evening...up to 250's. Also take Metformin 1000 mg a.m and p.m. I changed to 10 units a.m and 8 units p.m and what a difference. My average after 30 days is 138. Has anyone else experienced this? I did this on my own after learning my cousin's doctor told him to take Lantus twice a day. Amazing results!!!

I am on a split basal (long term) dosage as well. It works very well for me.

My father was having the same problem with the extreme AM lows. His doctor switched him to a smaller dose at 12 hour intervals instead of the night time dose and it seemed to really help.

Lantus seems to work for me. I have been on injections only at bedtime, no meds, for several years. Initially I had some problems. I am on Chemo and it would fluctuate between 100 in the morning and 390 - 450 during the day. I cannot take oral meds as I have negative reactions to them. Now I am on 50 units, and fluctuate between 95 units in a.m. and 180 units after meals. I am working on reducing the Lantus more by better regulating my diet.
