disheartened and not enjoying pregnancy
Hi All
I am 19 weeks and was just dx with GD. Failed 1 hr 187 then 3 hr GTT fasting 89 1 hr 220 2 hr 184 and 3 hr 62. Both my parents have type 2 and I am newly married 41 1st preg. Testing my blood for 2 weeks on my own and I have great 2 hr numbers generally low 80s to 119 and that was 2 plates of raviolis at 1 1/2 hr. point. I have terrible hay fever allergies but thankfully morning sickness has sig reduced. Disheartened bc I have soooo many dr appts. I understand the dietician but fetal echo heart scan a cardiologist for me ophthalmologist dentist and endo seem so over the top. I know we live in a litigious society but I have never in all my 41 years been to this many drs. I am a psychologist myself working full time and sometimes I just wish I could continue to eat healthy take my prenatals test my sugar daily and show up to hospital at 9 months in labor and say "hi everyone pls deliver my baby!" |

I'm kind of confused.. are all of the appointments due to pregnancy over 35? Or are they for the GD? There really is no need for all of that for GD. And honestly, if you can eat all that ravioli and not spike, your probably good to go.
My Drs are wanting to induce at 40 weeks for GD... which is a bit silly. One of the fears of GD is premature birth due to a large baby - so I guess they feel that inducing and taking a chance of baby not being ready is ok?? That was a little facetious, but it makes not sense. I have done my research and I am an informed/educated momma. I dread each appointment knowing that the medical establishment wants to intervene so often in a natural process. Don't get me wrong, I want my baby to be safe and healthy, but I expect good medical reasons for any interventions. It really sounds like you have your plate full and then to be diagnosed with GD on top of it. I hope that it goes smoothly!! |

Doctor just was a narcissistic control freak. Changed Doctor on the advice of a friend's sister who is a labor and delivery nurse. Much happier and this doc is much more reasonable and never seems irritable like the last. Glucose avg is 96 and I am 29 weeks think I am doing well, gained 18 pounds. Not bad for a 42 year old no? Signed much happier, DoctorLou
