Default women on the pump

Hi- I have been taking shots for about 20 years, a combination of lantus and humalog. My sugars are under decent control but my doctor is always pushing for me to go on the pump. I'm worried that I won't like having something attached to my body. Any thoughts?

It isn't bad having something attached to your body. And it's easily removed for showers/swimming/sex...it isn't really bulky-can even be discreetly concealed in your bra.

Personally, I enjoy the pump way more than I did the shots. I've only been on the pump for 6 years, but boy has it had a fabulous impact on my life. Of course shots and the pump both suck, but since the pump is my lifeline, it's truly remarkable.

I've been T1 for 25 yrs now and have been on the OmniPod for the past 5 yrs and I love it! No wires, the PDM is your glucose meter and the pod can get wet and not interfere with your daily activities!

I find the pump both a easy way of like and a hat way of living. While the pump is incredibly convenient it also makes it easy to forget you have diabetes and do whatever you want. But it makes it easy when you're at a party and want to snack or just want to eat a little something extra. It regulates insulin for you and is constantly giving you it. It real easy to take off and easy to attach to an article of clothing. I've ha mine for almost six years and I would never go back. I've only had diabetes for seven years and I find the pump very beneficial.

I have been on the pump for the last 10 years. It truly saved my life. It seems a little bulky at first but you will get used to it in no time. Enjoy it while you can.

Barb, I'd had Minimed for ... Well, since it first came out! I started the omnipod this past summer so I could go kayaking & still have my insulin. Love it. I tried the bands on my arm but they are so slick... Have you tried them??

I would check it out - I've been on a pump since 2005 and I love it, find that it's MUCH easier than injections. As someone else said, it's not connected to you at all times - very easy to remove whenever you need, and I wear mine in my bra 9 times out of 10, or in the pocket of my jeans - I almost always forget I have it on, and it's way easier to bolus with a few presses of buttons than taking out a syringe and vial or a pen. It also does all the math for you - all you have to do is put in your BG or carbs, and you can customize the ratios depending on time of day, as well as your basal patterns. I honestly don't know a single person who has switched to a pump and regretted it. I've been on the Deltec Cozmo (no longer made), Medtronic (not waterproof) and now I'm on Animas and I love it - much more durable and it's wonderful to be able to swim and kayak with your pump and not worry about it getting wet.
