Default backsliding

Diagnosed with type 2, 18 months ago. 64 Y/O male with BG levels around 250. Medication, exercise, and diet I'm now 215 lbs, with BG levels staying at about 100 and walking a mile a day. Was a pilot but FAA says no more flying because I'm a threat of diabetic attack. Is there life after diabetes?

Welcome to the Forum!

Congratulations on the weight loss and your exercise routine. Read the first three threads in the Type 2 Section when you get a chance. Good luck with your control and management.

Yes, there is life after diabetes. Sometimes it is a bit different than the life we once knew and the benefit is that we now have a healthier lifestyle.

Maybe I don't understand. My doc says keep your bg under 120, which I do. I eat what ever I want and watch calories only. It seems reading posts that I should be watching carbs not calories. I've lost 60 pounds and my friends say I'm looking sickly. Doc says only take bg readings once a week and then only before breakfast. All my blood readings are perfect and have been for over 18 months. Do I need a new doc or re-educated?

Welcome to the Forum! Congratulations on the weight loss! You are doing well with your control and management.

If you are watching calories, you are watching carbs somewhat. As a rule of thumb you can generally divide your calorie intake by the number eight (8). This will give you an idea of the carb intake, but as a person with diabetes, you would be much better off counting the carbs. This is just my opinion, but it works for me and many others.

I think maybe re-education may be in order. Read the first three threads in the Type Section, when you get a chance.
