Carb Counting
My son is 13 years old with insulin pump. We count carbs 1 unit for 8 carbs. I add the carbs per serving size. We start at 108bg two 1/2 hours later he is 327. I just dont understand this. I have to dose him for correction. My question: Do anyone have any suggestions. What am I doing wrong?

There are several things to consider. What are you trying to trying to measure? Is that an adult serving? If it is cereal, for instance, was milk used and did you count those carbs as well.
If he is 13, puberty may be kicking in as well. This caused my son problems with the raging hormones. This complicates the diabetes management with several problems. My best advice would be to read the Carb Counting 101 thread in the Type 2 section. If you have an iPhone, try the apps listed on the last page. There you will also find websites to help with the carb counting. I am a big fan of MyNetDiary. I use it atleast three times a day. I have found that I get the best management, when I input the most accurate carb counting numbers into the equation. You may find that measuring the food, via a scale, will give you better results, to start out with. Also measuring by cup is helpful. In summation, don't just depend on the accuracy of the side of the box label. Serving sizes should be measured by something that you can get consistent results (ie one cup or weight in grams, ounces, etc.) Good luck, I wish you much success in helping your son.

My daughters endo told us that your body will turn proteins into sugar if it's getting more protein and carb free stuff than not. I don't know if he was right or a cooke but I notice when my daughter eats 0carb hot dogs or sandwich meat as snacks all day her bg will go up still. I also give her soy milk the carb content is half of that of regular milk and she loves it
