breakfast
What do diabetics eat for breakfast? I can't eat boxed cereal it spikes my blood sugar up to 220 an hour after I eat and it's still 180 two hours after. I don't want to eat eggs seven days a week. Suggestions?

Not oatmeal and toast!
Try making almond meal pancakes or waffles. They can be frozen and popped in the toaster. Add some berries and/or sf syrup. Add cinnamon to possibly help with bg. I have protein shakes some mornings - protein powder, cocoa, stevia and almond milk. Some berries on the side. I make almond meal muffins and freeze. Hash browns can be made from cauliflower or jicama. Try egg substitutes or egg whites if you don't want to eat all those eggs. Veggie omelets. Just make sure, no matter the meal or snack, to have protein in some form to slow down the carb intake. Breakfast has been hard for me, too. I had high fiber, high protein cereal this morning with a protein shake and some blueberries, but had to up the insulin and exercise harder to keep my bg ok, but still up to 105 (I'm very tight control). You can eat non-traditional food for breakfast, too. Greek yogurt if you like it - I hate it, so I make peanut butter (no sugar added from Trader Joes) cocoa, cinnamon shakes to hide the taste/consistency. But you have to eat breakfast! Google low carb breakfast and thousands of options will show up. I am going to try a ricotta cheese pancake tomorrow. Low carb tortilla with lox and cream cheese? Good luck. |

I've founds that the more under control I keep my blood sugar, the more I can tolerate unsweetened breakfast cereals. Some that I like are Shredded Wheat (whole grain wheat is the only ingredient), Fiber One (wheat and corn bran and a small amount of sweetener), and several of the Kashi brand cereals.
Some other favorites of mine: - bacon, eggs and an English muffin - bacon with cheesy grits - diabetic-friendly yogurt with 1/4 cup granola |
