New to the forum
Hi to all you out there I am new to this forum. I have been a type II for about 15 years or so and now am approaching 58 years old. Over the years I have gone through good and bad times with blood sugar, to be honest mostly at my own doing. I am reasonably fit but about 6 months the holidays I was on a business trip and forgot my meds, went on half meds to make it back over a week or so and have had a really hard time trying to restoring any sort of base line at an BG acceptable level. Have had a couple of blood workups done and this weekend the doctor and I agreed it was time to go to insulin injections for better control. I was wondering about anybody in my circumstance out there. Seems to me that the pills after a point burn out your organs ability to keep up and this seems a lot better way to go for me. Sometimes the cure can be just as bad as the disease and I always hated putting so many meds inside me. I still need to lose some more weight (as we all do) but am actually more upbeat since I crossed the Rubicon so to speak with regard to insulin. Anybody out there to share experiences like mine? What's to come? What to look out for? etc

Welcome to the Forum!
My diagnosis is similar. I was diagnosed T2 in 2000 and on several meds until two years ago. I am now insulin dependent since that time. Insulin may be the best thing in you case, it was in mine. The best that I can determine, the pills will only work for about ten years. Do some research, look into counting carbs, most what you will need to know is in the first three threads in the T2 Section and try a tag search on "Advanced Carb Counting". I have been counting carbs and taking a bolus at each meal for the carbs. This works very well for me, perhaps it will work for you as well. Basically, at this point, you are T1 in methodology, so treat it as such. Good luck with your control, management and the insulin.
