Question Don't want to start meds

I was given a wake up call with a FBS of 180 ... followed by a A1c of 7.6. last week. I am watching what I am eating (following Sparks People Diabetic diet where I can track my food intake and exercise) and have an appt with a dietician in three weeks. I've lost ~8 lbs over the past three weeks and increased my exercise (from 0 to 30). I really don't want to start taking medications. Has anyone been able to manage their BS with diet and exercise and what are your secrets.

One curious thing is that my BS is at it's highest "right out of bed" when I haven't eaten anything for 10 or so hours...any help with that mystery would be appreciated.

I love this site so far and have been tracking my BS. First time on a forum, appreciate any help or advice you can give.

Marge

Watch your carbs and exercise. Read the first three threads in the Type 2 Section. Good luck!

Take a look at this thread or do a Google Search for dawn phenomenon.

Look at the Diet Evolution by Dr Gundry http://www.drgundry.com/, it has worked for me for 2 years now.

My blood sugar is always highest right when I get up also. Been testing things and it always lowers mine if I have a protein snack before I go to bed, such as lunch meat, bacon, etc.

Thumbs up

Excellent good work!

I am low carbing...less than 100 net per day and ½ that listed as sugars.
I used to be on meds, BP and cholesterol and ate no salt.
I eat very few processed meats or other food of any kind, so don't get much salt and was not adding it to anything....
Guess what, my blood sodium is actually too low and I need to eat some... go figure...

Keep up the good work!

I stayed off meds for 8 years by following Power Protein low carb plan. I have gotten a little careless with eating or I probably would not be on metformin now. I was way higher than you when I started. My A1C stays under 7.
