motivation
So I've had type 1 for 20 years. I am very good at taking my insulin. I use a pen because I feel like it's easier than messing with a pump. I hardly work out and I could stand to lose a few lbs (prob 20) and I hardly test my sugar. I have had slight depression here and there but I think I'm over that. I'm trying to find motivation! Test sugar, exercise, and quit smoking AND drink less blue moon. I used to be great and in control, but now I know all the stuff I should be doing but I'm not doing it. I'm hoping GB will give me some more motivation. Thanks for listening to the rant!

Welcome to the Forum!
I am also insulin dependent and use the pens. I count the carbs for everything that I eat, this is how I calculate my bolus dosage. This method is also used by those on the pump and it works very well for me, perhaps it would work for you as well. Good luck with your control, management and motivation.

My motivation is using the people I love. I live for them and try to take care of myself so I can live healthy and longer to be here with them. Hope that helps.

This might sound silly, but try and make it as fun as possible. One of my other buddies is a type2 and we have mini competitions throughout the day about who can keep control the best or regulate what we eat or log the most

I understand
I totally get it and have been there myself (we sound a lot alike). In part I think it's denial and a lack of motivation to be "different". Sometimes I find that I'm just too busy to be diabetic - single working mom etc. I often dread BG testing because it's like the number tells you that you Failed or Passed and I hate that.
But you have to find your motivation. For some it might be the friendly competition with a friend, for me it's being there for my kids, for you it will be something unique. What do you love to do? Imagine not doing that because you were too sick and that is probably the place your motivation will come from. Just don't beat yourself up!!! Get back on the Diabetic horse and start riding it again. I believe in you! |

I'm in the same situation. A possible big change might be right for you. Talk to the doctor about a insulin pump and advantages it has.
I originally was scarred to get one because All my life I've used syringes and they didn't have the technology when I was diagnosed. Truth is is that it's now that bad or painful and A hell of alot more easy then pulling out the pen or bottles of insulin. |
