Default diabetes gone wild?

I went on holiday in may, my monitor broke the first day so took my metformin as usual(2 twice daily) but no readings, on the second week I got terrible thirsts and was drinking gallons of water, I hadn't had much different food and I dint drink alcohol. On returning I was in hospital 2 days later so didn't get chance to get a new meter, but hospital took it and it was 26! They took it daily a few times and it was never lower than 20. I got a new meter and started testing again and bearing in mind I have had 3 months bed rest, I went to my GP he gave me a glycacide to take at lunch, went back after a fortnight and levels still above 18, he gave me another glycoside to take and said he can't give me anything else, I will be referred back to hospital. Does this mean I am heading towards insulin? I am really upset and don't know what had happened? Anyone shed light on it for me? Thanks, Deb

Deb;

I was going to elaborate on my post, but I hit the wrong button.

Yes, it does sound like you are heading down the road to insulin, if you can't get your blood sugar down. That being said, please read the first three threads in the Type 2 (T2) Section. The information contained in those threads will help you get the blood sugar down. A good diet and exercise is the key to controlling diabetes. Good luck with your control and management.
