Hi! New to Forum
Hello everyone! My name is Erika and I was diagnosed with type two diabetes about a year and a half ago. I'm currently taking metformin and byetta and my Dr recently prescribed glimepiride, but I haven't started taking that yet. My readings are never good; averaging about 350 I'd say. Well, I have to have hip replacement surgery so I went for my pre-op appointment. A few days later the hospital called me to say I have to see my Dr because my A1C was 12.1%!!! And I have to bring it down before surgery. Today is 7/12 and my surgery is 7/21...does anyone know how they will be able to bring it down in 9 days??
Thank you!! |

Erika;
Welcome to the Forum! I am assuming that you have seen your doctor recently and that you had blood work done. Did he happen to tell you what your current A1c is? They will not be able to bring your A1c down substantially from 12.1% from 7/12 to 7/21. However, it may be down some now, depending on the date of your last office visit and what your A1c was at that time. You can help things along greatly by changing your diet, if needed, and counting carbs. Please take a look at the first three threads in the T2 Section. Good luck with getting the A1c down and the surgery.
