After breakfast highs
I'm getting quite frustrated. I started on Metformin XR a few weeks ago and am up to taking 1 x 500mg in the morning and 2 x 500mg at night. I'm also taking a 4mg Amaryl in the mornings and one at night.
I'm also eating low carb, which is doing wonders for my bsl. But for the past couple of mornings I've been gettting high readings after breakfast. For example this morning my fasting level was 6.4 (115, my lowest fasting so far). After breakfast which was some left over chicken my bsl was 9.3 (168). Does anyone know what is going on. I got similar levels yesterday after having 3 eggs for breakfast. |

There are several things that could be going on. The first is called "Pre-Dawn Phenomena". Secondly, it could be that you system has not had time to adjust to the Metformin. Thirdly, it could be that exercise, after your evening meal, would help. There is a lot of info concerning this in the T2 "Blood Sugar 101" thread. You may want to have a conversation with your doctor, as well.

I was having problems with DP before getting up in the mornings, but I've never had a problem after breakfast before. I will ask the doc about it next time I see her.
