Question What is an average daily difference

Over th course of 2 weeks my daily averages range about 15 points. From a low of 111.5 to a high of 126.7. (Yes I know these are still elevated from the under 100 where I would like them, but in the last 6 weeks I have brought it down from an average of 143.3 with huge discrepancies day to day to where it is now so on the hole I am pretty pleased with how I am doing. Also some of the higher days have been trying various foods to see what they do (nothing terrible, things like a grapefruit or some popcorn. Today was a little bit of whole wheat pasta- not great, but not as bad as I thought it would be!)

Is this variance normal? Also, what is a reasonable weekly target average for someone fairly new to all of this and trying to get it under control?

It looks like you are doing really well!

I don't know that I can answer your question, but I can tell you what limitations that I have set for myself. First off I have set my maximum blood sugar to be 140 mg/dl and the target range of 70 mg/dl to 120 mg/dl, with my average being between 90 mg/dl and 110 mg/dl. Second I have set my fasting (out of bed) blood sugar range to be 70 mg/dl to 90 mg/dl. So far this is working pretty good for me.

Counting carbs works! If you are not doing it, try it! I wish you the best!

I am counting carbs to the best of my ability- I live in a country where the local language is not my first. I am doing my best with packaging and learning fast, but I still miss things on packaging sometimes. I am also pregnant and there are times where I need more carbs than I would like in order to keep myself from being sick (morning sickness for me tends to be 24/7 for the whole pregnancy!)

I know my first thing in the morning is too high. they range from 96 to 107. Again considering a few weeks ago they were over 125 pretty much every day I figure I am moving in the right direction.

I as sick on the 19th and got a daily average of 143, but other than that I have been under 135 since the 10th. the vast majority of days are now under 125.

What about exercise? You are doing really well, especially for the conditions. Keep up the good work, for you and the little one.

Ps. You can expect the blood sugars to go up, if you are sick. Sadly, it happens to all of us.

I have taken to walking 45+ minutes few nights a week with my older daughter but the truth is, my older daughter was a preemie so I am supposed to be taking it really easy (I am NOT on bed rest, but am supposed to be going easy.) I am super overweight (although this new eating system seems to be almost magic. I am well into my second trimester and things from before I was pregnant are huge on me and falling off!) so I am not doing as much as I otherwise probably should be.

I figure though even the 2 days I was sick they were only 143- not as terrible as it could be right? Also, I think the allergy medication I took may have affected my levels. There is no scientific data that it does but there seems to be a ton of empirical evidence!

I am assuming that you have gestational diabetes and are not taking insulin. At any rate there are some threads in the T2 section that will be of interest to you. Specifically, Blood Sugar 101 and Carb Counting 101. If you have a need there are a couple of websites that may help you with the carb counting. Just let me know and I will give you the links. I have read it all cover to cover Truth is this was found so early in the pregnancy that we are not sure if it is GD or T2- won't know for sure until at least a few weeks after so we can see what happens. I am not currently on any medication at all, just testing 7-10 times a day to try to keep on as tight a track as I can. Before and after most meals, first thing in the morning, and usually sometimes twice in a row because I do dumb things like forgetting to wash my hands. My fingers are killing me!

The thing with carb counting is that even small ammounts, which I need for the pregnancy and to not be nauteus 24/7 can send me sky high! I had about 40g of whole wheat pasta tonight with a ton of vegetables and some chicken, and it shot me up to 160 at 1 hour and 147 at 2! (It was a trial run on a new food that I will not be using again most likely!). So even carb counting, at 15 per exchange can send me insane!

It sounds like you may need to try spaghetti squash. I have not tried it, but they say it is a good replacement for pasta.

BTW; If you are not using meds and controlling your diabetes with only diet and exercise, then you are doing really well. Keep up the good work!
