Default You’ve probably got multiple blood sugar meters. Which is your favorite? Why?

There are tons of meters out there that differ in size, weight, shape... You’ve probably got multiple blood sugar meters. Which is your favorite? Why?

I use the OneTouch Ultra and the OneTouch UltraMini, simply because they both use the same test strips. It's a matter of economics for me, I guess you could say that I am cheap.

Did I mention that both meters were FREE!

I would have thought that this thread would have gotten better responses! Am I the only one that uses a blood glucose meter?

I was given a OneTouch Ultra 2 meter by my doctor. It's small and it works reasonably well but it doesn't the nicest UI and it's clumsy to retrieve information more than 1 level deep.

I was recently diagnosed as Type 2 and I assume I will investigate the pros and cons of other meters as time goes by.

I use an Optium Xceed as it can also measure keytones. The meter was free and I get all my test strips free as well.

I use a Accu-Chek Compact Plus which was offered for free by my insurance company. It's an all-in-one and the strips come in small canisters. The strips are very expensive but since it's one of the two meters my insurance specified they cover all but $25/month of the cost of the strips. It's handy to use since it's self contained but it's a bit bulky to carry around, particularly if we're going out to dinner, etc. I also have a ReliOn Ultima I picked up from Walmart for around $10 and I take that with me when we go out for the evening. I have to pay for those strips myself but they are about 1/3 the cost of the Accu-Chek strips and a 100 pack lasts a couple of months since I don't use it all the time. The Accu-Check lancing device (SoftClix Plus) is much nicer than the ReliOn one so I usually detach it from the Compact Plus and take it with my along with the Ultima.

Hope this is useful,
Ken

I've had 3 Accu-Cheks, but recent went to a Bayer Contour USB.
I like it because I don't have to constantly enter log entries. I will automatically import readings into GlucoFacts (or GlucoFact Deluxe) when it's plugged into the computer.
