Default One week as a Glucose Buddy

I have tried several other systems for keeping track of my diabetes and none of them had the appeal and hold that Glucose Buddy have for me at this time. I found this app at a time when I really needed something to help me get focused on my diabetes and leave me time to tend to my other primary task as Primary Caregiver to my wife who has dementia of the Alzheimer's type. She has been in crisis lately and we are both challenged by the circumstances. Glucose Buddy is nothing short of a lifesaver to me.

Everything about this site appears to be advanced and elevated. I am looking forward to spending some time getting better acquainted with the resources here as the situation at home settles down (I hope).

My background is in the field of bodywork, I am a 30 year vet of Radix, a Reichian bodywork. I was forced into retirement two years ago when I broke my ankle while on a work assignment on the road and due to my diabetic neuropathy the healing was slowed and two years later is still in the later stages of healing with Ultra violet light therapy through my dermatologist. I have had 45 treatments over the past year.

My wife's condition as an Alzheimer's patient worsened during my healing process and I have determined that I will devote my energies to becoming her Primary Caregiver on a permanent basis. It is amazing how much of what I learned and practiced as a bodyworker is applicable in serving my wife in her condition. She gets good care at my hands.

I still maintain friendships with my colleagues in the bodywork field and thanks to all the venues of communication available today that is not too difficult.

I think this is enough for starters. Greetings to all of you. I will be reading your posts and threads, etc. Catching up on whats happening as I am able.

Part Two, continuing introduction

Sunday, March 28, 8:18 am. It seemed to me like another week had passed already since I wrote the above introduction. Using Glucose Buddy stirred a lot of memories from the past, i.e., some time spent with two diabetic educators over several courses of sessions covering several months two years running. It was a course in Advanced Carbohydrate Counting. Even though I am of advanced years the Diabetic Educators thought I would benefit from the course on Carb Counting and taking more responsibility for myself. I was continuing to be supervised by the DiabetesEducators and my Primary Care Physician all the while. Before Carb Counting I had been treated with Sliding Scale at the Rehab Center where I was treated with a broken ankle. That system didn't work so well for me. And prior to that the Internist had an assistant that tended the diabetics and she told me what to do. Right after diagnosis in '93 I attended an intensive week of diabetes education sponsored by the hospital I where I was a patient.

The prior paragraph represents stirring a lot of confusion about what I have been through none of which has been properly followed through by me. As I reviewed the graphs printed out from Glucose Buddy (via IE8) beautiful artistically presented material, I realized I had not been exposed to anything of this quality and detail since I was diagnosed with Diabetes. I want to see if my team of Diabetes Educators are willing to work with me again with a flow of information from Glucose Buddy and help me get me under control as well as the disease process.

One block that we encountered together, Diabetes Educators, Physicians and me, was that Medicare refused to support the program that was required to accomplish the goals of the program set up by the doctors and the Diabetes Educators. They will not pay for test strips and supplies for more than three or four tests a day, except for a brief period. My drug expenses for all causes, excluding Diabetes, is excessive.

Another reason it seems like Week Two or even Month Two already is that my wife, an Alzheimer's patient, with an active dementia, is challenging me around the clock. Help is on the way this Tuesday, as my Daughter is arriving for a week to assist. Surprisingly, it is of help to know that this forum is here, that Glucose Buddy App is doing all this work for me and is here, that there is a team, on this site, a resource here, preparing for good things to come.

Thats it for now, in a few days another week or two will pass. Jonari
