Default Newly diagnosed - BG question

I was told on 12/26/13 that I am type 2. I was told to check my BG 4x per day. I am consistently having high BG levels. It was 290 yesterday after exercise (don't want to know what it was before). I wasn't really given any guidelines or instructions on what to do for high sugars. I was prescribed metformin 2x per day (lovely side effects ). Anyone have any advice for a newbie? I don't have my diabetes education class until Jan 21. I have read the Blood Sugar 101.

Welcome to the Forum!

Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. The meds will help, but realistically the only way to lower high blood sugar is to eat low carb foods and exercise. Good luck with your control and management.
