Default just got diagnosed and need help

I'm 14 weeks with my 2nd preg and was told I have gd 3 days ago. I'm kinda going crazy. I have an appt with the high risk ob and nutrionist in 2 weeks and I really don't know what I can and can't eat. My dr was already upset with me that I haven't gained any weight in my first trimester.

Welcome to the Forum!

Most of us count carbs. Read through the Blood Sugar 101 and the Carb Counting 101 threads in the T2 Section. This will give you an idea of what to eat. Vegetables and proteins, mainly. The Diabetes rule of thumb is to stay away from anything white. This includes sugar, flour, pasta etc.....

Thanks for the advice dano. I've been keeping track of carbs and cut out sugar. My bg is never higher than 130 and that's only after breakfast. I hope I'm doing ok.

Hi Igramer. It's hard cutting out carbs and sugar! I never realized how big a portion of rice and pasta I was eating till I started measuring it. But I've been filling up on salads and protein like eggs with breakfast and lunch so I don't miss my bagel with cream cheese as much. Good luck to u. It's hard but if u eat right it's totally manageable.

2d preg 1st was diagnosed with GD. already testing high at 13 weeks. With 1st baby, she came out healthy & normal at 7 lbs 3 ozs. I was on diet, oral meds, and insulin. The trick is to be meticulous, watch what you eat, and don't say, 'I can cheat just one time'. Don't freak out, just take every day and every step carefully and cautiously. Your goal is a healthy baby, so hang in there. Maybe I need that advice, too; I just picked up my insulin yesterday. Besides, I eat more food this way, which always surprises me. Good lick!

I'm at the end of my pregnancy! Can't wait to stop testing myself. My numbers were generally good! I have to say exercise (ie: walking and water aerobics) also helped managed my glucose levels. Foodwise- it wasn't too bad. I just didn't like the idea of having to watch what I ate, testing, and documenting. Btw- have any of you tried dreamfield pasta? I was able to eat more than 1/3 cup of cooked pasta. My husband didn't notice the difference when i used it.

Good luck all!

With this being my first and at 29 weeks being told I have GD, I've been able to bring it down considerably. With mostly protein and salads, which fill me nicely without spiking. What has been great for me is having one piece of wheat bread with peanut butter to hold me over for a snack. The one thing I can't wait for though, is to stop pricking my fingers!

This spammer is killing me... ugh ^^^

Anyway. lol Have you been tracking the carbs you get at each meal? You can't cut carbs completely, because then you cause other issues. You need to keep your carbs at 2 servings at breakfast, 3-4 servings lunch and dinner, and 1 serving for each snack. Eat every 2-3 hours and test frequently until you know how certain foods affect you (i.e. if I eat white bread I spike, wheat bread does not). Eating complex carbs and fiber with protein in each meal helps to digest the sugar. Have you seen a dietician?

Hope I don't sound preachy.. lol, I have been reading like a mad person and my best friend is a registered dietician, so I have a direct source on this.

I'm with you though, I can't wait to stop pricking my fingers!! And after this baby is born I am having a large piece of chocolate cake!!!
