I went thru the same thing! My dr finally put me on glimeperide (not sure of the spelling). It works on me without the stomach side effects of met firman. Good luck to you!

Metformin is an awful drug. My husband was on it for a few years and never knew when he would suddenly vomit or lose control of his bowels. It was terrible. I took him to an herbalist who put him on bitter melon and cinnamon capsules. It works much better in lowering BG than Metformin and he never gets stomach issues anymore.
Studies show that over 30% of patients have terrible side effects from it.
I thank God that I'm allergic to this crap. The doctor put me on Januvia for slightly elevated blood sugar (I'm not diabetic,) and A1C. It should be a short term thing for me once I drop a few lbs which I'm diligent about with diet and ex cerise.

I took 1,000 mg of metformin morning and night when I was first diagnosed. Had horrible diarrhea for months! Dr. switched me to the extended release and the problem is reduced by about 80%. It makes such a difference!

Not very long ago I was diagnosed with diabetes and was put on regular Metformin. I got very sick with nausea, migraines, and very weak and tired. It had caused Lactic Acidosis. My Dr switched me to the slow release Metformin and eased me into it starting with 1 pill a day. No more problems!

Tell your doctor that metformin makes you itch all over. They will definitely switch you to a much safer drug with a lot less side effects like januvia or glipizide. Itching is the sign of an allergic reaction. Good luck!!
