That is a fantastic site. I think I'll be printing most of it and adding it to my diabetes folder I've started

I highly recommend Jenny Ruhl's Diet 101 book. In Chapter 9, she gives very practical advice to learn how many carbs you can eat and keep your blood sugar in "heart healthy" range by testing before lunch or dinner, 1 and 2 hours after. I also recommend protein shakes made with low carb, high protein whey. They curb appetite. Made with almond milk and heavy whipping cream and low net carb fruits etc, a meal like breakfast will have 10-20 carbs. This will give you a good head start on controlling carbs for the day.

Thank you for the great link! I spent hours reading as much as I could on this website and I really appreciate the level of detail the author goes into - especially on the different medications available to treat diabetes.
I was diagnosed with type 2 almost 3 weeks ago and just completed an all day class at my local hospital. They mentioned all of the types of meds, but didn't go into depth on any of them. They also didn't discuss serious side effects or drug efficacy, and certainly did not link to any of the research that has been done on the newer meds. Now I feel like I am prepared to meet my doctor on equal ground. I have very definite opinions on what I am and am not willing to do or take to treat my diabetes. If nothing else I learned that I need to advocate for myself and ask lots of questions. |

I just took a quick look at that site. My A1c is...if I remember correctly...5.7. I was told that normal ranges are from 70-100. I was surprised to see 70-92! I wonder if my doctor is still going by the "old norms"? I will have to go over the site some more...when I'm feeling a bit better.

It's a great site, full of good advice.
Shame that the "official sites" don't use some of this stuff! |

This is by far the best website I have visited in the 3 years of having diabetes, thank you so much! Lots of very factual material, I had to book mark it so I can finish reading it all. So many answered questions
