Default Hair lose & Metformin!

HELP IM LOSING MY HAIR! My once super think & healthy hair is now so thin that i use baby bands to hold my hair up!

I have been on Metformin for about 10yrs now, about 2 yrs ago I started losing my hair by the hand fulls! My hair dresser told me its from the Metformin, has anyone else had issues with hair lose?

New to Type II Diabetes (& the GB forums), but not to hair loss. Have you had your thyroid checked? Hair loss is very common with thyroid disease... And apparently poor thyroid function & diabetes can go hand in hand, which I didn't know. I've had Hashimoto's (auto-immune thyroid disease) for over 15 years... Hair loss was one of my first indicators, since I have a LOT of hair. Or I did have. ;-)

Anyway, if you've never had your thyroid checked, and if Metformin is not the culprit here, I'd highly recommend you do. Better safe than sorry.

Good luck!

It's strange that you have been on Metformin for so long but only recently are experiencing hair loss. I would be suspicious of something else going on. I to lost some hair but it was due to my thyroid which I eventually had to have removed. I would check with your doctor.
