Default Newbie questions

I tried to find this by searching the forum, as I'm sure it has been asked before, but had no luck. Sorry for repeating things.

I had gestational in 2008. Afterwards for a while my lab results were ok.

My last lab test hA1C was 5.9, my fasting was high and my 1 hour and 2 hour were normal.

No one ever suggested testing my glucose before I ate. But I did it recently. What I discovered is that 3 hours after eating I could be as low as 63.

I have a appointment with my educator/nutritionist tonight, and will tell her about my discovery, but I thought I would try a little crowd sourcing on the forum too.

Any insights or advice?

Welcome to the Forum!

I am not sure exactly what you are asking, but I will give it a shot.

Normal blood sugars are:

Fasting: 70-99 mg/dl
BG 2 Hours After High Carbs: < 140 mg/dl

Most of us try to maintain a BS of 100 mg/dl to 120 mg/dl throughout the day.

Take a look at the "Blood Sugar 101" thread in the Type 2 Section if you get a chance. There is a lot of good information there as well.

Good luck with your control and management.

Is it common or rare to have numbers below 80 or even 70 3 to 4 hours after eating?

I never tested before meals before, just after. I had no idea I was below 70 so often. (or potintinally so often.)

Since I started test pre meal, I've gotten a little nervous because I'm had the following numbers.

63
65
65
74
75
79

All in it might prove my morning highs have to do with rebounding...

Is there anyone out there on the forum that has to eat every 3 hours or they hypo?

You have a right to be nervous, but knowing this is half the battle. Half of your posted reading are hypo's. Anything less than 70 mg/dl is considered a hypo. There is a lot of information on the web about "hypoglycemia" and yes there are many people who eat every three hours or so. However, I don't know if there are any on this forum. Let us know what your diabetes educator tells you this evening. Good Luck.
