waiting for diagnosis
Hi! I am a 40 year old nutritionist with a BMI of 21. I had a routine visit w/my GP and he ordered some non-fasting tests. Included was a glucose which was 65. He wasnt concerned but I thought it was odd....I eat very well. I was feeling bad at work a couple of days later so I had my BS drawn in our lab. It was 186. My GP ordered a 3 hr OGTT and I was shocked when the numbers came back. 50-65-60. I am waiting for an endo. evaluation but have been checking my BS. No low BS's but most are 130's-140's except my fasting which is mid 90's. Any thoughts???

Here is a little more information for you.
You can do a tag search for "Normal Blood Sugar" by selecting Search above, then Tag Search, then click on Normal Blood Sugar. Just for the record, these are my personal ranges: Fasting: 70-99 After Meals: I consider anything above 140 @ 1 hour and anything above 120 @ 2 hours too high. Also , the "Blood Sugar 101" thread in the Type 2 Section is a good read.

Thanks, Danny. I remember studying about type 1.5 in graduate school. It's not often discussed and I completely forgot about it

Hi Dano,
Would you mind telling me a little bit more about Type 1.5? 2 of my sons have an autoimmune disease (ankylosing spondylosis) and I am the gene carrier (HLA B27+). I understand that 1st degree relatives w/autoimmune disorder increases my chances of type 1.5. I am waiting on an evaluation by an endo next month. Thanks so much, Lisa ( my fasting BS is usually upper 90's. My BS in the evenings spikes to 160-170's. I eat well and exercise, and I am normal body weight) Last edited by hmillerl; 06-27-2011 at 05:17 PM. |

Lisa;
I assume that you read the previosuly posted website on T1.5. Your fasting blood sugars appear to be ok, but the evenings spikes at 160-170 are some what high. You can find the Normal Blood Sugar Info Here. You may also wish to take a look at this previously posted WebSite, which is a good read for any person with diabetes. As previously mentioned above, these are just my personal ranges: Fasting: 70-99, After Meals: I consider anything above 140 @ 1 hour and anything above 120 @ 2 hours too high. Type 1.5 is basically like Type 1, but it happens later in life (aka Slow Onset Type 1 or or Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults or LADA). Type 1 used to be referred to as Juvenile Diabetes and is generally associated with children or from childhood. Here is some information on Type 1. I am sure that from your training, you know most of this, but sometimes it helps to have a refresher course. I hope that the information is of some help.
