Hi, i'm Gary and live in the UK. I have been T2 dianosed for 8 years. This week my doc has put me on insulin (levemir) as well as my usual oral meds cos my HbA1c is getting too high (currently 9.8) Are there any other UK members out there ?

I don't understand the units used to state values in the USA as i only understand mmol/L and general UK values. Anyway Hi everyone.

Welcome to the Forum!

No wonder you are confused, you are talking about two different things.

Blood Sugar and HbA1c Info:
Your current HbA1c of 9.8% equates to an Average Blood Glucose (in mg/dl) of 235 mg/dl here in the US and an Average Blood Glucose (in mmol/L) of 13.0 mmol/L in the UK.

Insulin Units Info:
There are 100 units of insulin in 1 ml. Therefore, each unit of insulin, in a syringe, is .01 ml

Hi Gary,

I'm in the UK too so understand your concerns. Your daily blood tests are measured on mmol in the UK (and Europe I think) whilst on the USA they use mg/dl. Currently your hba1c is measured as a % value although I did read somewhere that there are plans to change this to a different value over the next few years, so for a while you will be given your hba as 2 values, the old and the new.

I wouldn't stress over it though, there are plenty of knowledgeable people here if you have questions!
