Re: Birth Control Pills
Hmm, That's a really good question! I've been on BC (Yasmin) for about 7-8 years and I always have high blood sugar. All my doctors know I am on BC and nobody has told me that it may alter my blood sugar ... I'd want to say it doesn't effect BG but, I can't be 100% sure.

I'm not positive either but my doctor always said to be aware that the hormones in your birth control can raise your blood sugar slightly. I took the pill for 7 years and just recently stopped. If you do a little research on it you will find articles to support that fact that the hormones will raise blood sugar.

Type 1 and happy with BC
My OB-Gyn has had me on BC pills that are strictly progesterone. She says that her diabetic patients have an easier time with these since they don't affect BG as easily. I've been on them for about 5 years and haven't had any trouble at all.

I had stopped taking BC pills around the time I was diagnosed. I tried to take them again a few years ago and within about two weeks my glucose readings were horrific....I was spiking up over 300 nearly every day. I stopped taking the BC and things went back to normal ranges within about a week.
Everybody's different. |

Yes it does!
My hba1c was 6.3 before I got on BC pills. 2 months after I started the BC pills, my Hba1c is at 7.3. My doc did tell me that it will impact my sugar levels.
Am on metformin 2000mg as well.... |

I stopped taking BC in 2009. I was in depo provera before that and gained a ton if weight. I lost 130lbs the year I switched to Marvelon. But the pill caused High BG, migraines, yeast infections and rapid-fire, week long periods that would come on every two weeks. No more migraines, no weight gain, no infections after being off of it.

Hello i'm Sarah I'm type one and have been for 13 years Im only 21 and I'm on the NuvaRing. I love it every 28 days! But before I found the NuvaRing I was on over 4 types of pills. My bg would stay up 4 days before I started and 3 or 4 days after. But now I have no problems! It is a ring you place in you for 3 weeks and take out a week and put a new one in. With all the meds I'm on it's nice to not have to worry about the Birth control pill everyday. You should ask your dr about it!

I had to come off of them. They made my sugar go crazy... They don't do everyone that way, you will just have to try them out and be aware to look for anything out of the ordinary ( with how you are feeling)
