Default Done with high glucose levels

I went to the doc last week and found out my A1C was 15. That night I took my glucose level and it was 596. In just over a week I have lowered it to 200. I already notice my gums are no longer red, my eyesight is readjusting. My yeast infection cleared up and I have lots of energy.

Welcome to the Forum!

Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. Good luck with your control and management.

Watch what you eat and learn to count carbs.

Try a whole plant food diet. No meat, no dairy, no processed foods!

The key to winning the war on diabetes is two things....food control and exercise. If you can commit to these two things and stay consistent, you will win the battle. First, know and learn what foods trigger high blood sugar and why you cant eat them. Processed foods, cake, candy, cookies, rice, pasta, breads, cereals, sugary drinks, potatoes, starchy foods. All of it is simple carbohydrates and this is pure poison to you. Get rid of it. If you stop eating these foods, there is NO WAY you will not see change in your glucose control. When you go to the grocery store, eat the foods on the outside walls of the store and stay away from everything in the middle aisles. That is a good place to start. Fresh veggies, limit your fruits to berries only and dont go crazy. Eat meats and cheeses, nuts, seeds, all salad stuff is fine, seafood, fresh fish, and switch regular milk for unsweetened Almond Milk. Go into to the frozen food area and any of the Atkins frozen entrees are fair game and so is their entire line of food and snacks....have at it. Then, you need part two, exercise. If you can walk, ride a bike, workout, run, whatever for at least a half hour each day, you will see vast improvement in your glucose levels and your A1C. These are the keys to unlock success and take control. You can do it and you have to. The addition of Metformin and other drugs is also a big help to you so that the cells in your body allow insulin to be received and to stop the liver from over-producing glucose that floods into the bloodstream. Controlling your diet and light excercise boosts the capabilities of all the meds you take. And....if you play your cards right and really get this under control, you might be able to stop the meds altogether and manage the blood glucose with diet and exercise alone. That takes super tight control but it can be done. Good luck and I hope this helps. I am in the boat with you but my control of this is very tight and my numbers are indications that I am winning and diabetes is not!
