Hello!
My name is Maria. I have type 2 diabetes and was diagnosed 11 years ago. I was recently put on insulin. Not sure how I feel about. Actually pretty upset about it. Not a big needle fan. Looking forward to having someone that understands what it is that I am going through.

Welcome to the Forum!
The commitment to insulin was one of the best things that I have done. Nothing was working for me and now my blood glucose is pretty much whatever I want it to be. It does take a lot of work for me with the calculations and carb counting, but I am in the best control of my life. Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. Good luck with your control and management.

Hi Maria!
I see you are a TX gal (as am I). I just recently learned that I am in the prediabetic range.
I am trying to "head this off" by making lifestyle choices. I am going raw vegan and exercising. While I am not asking you to do the same, I have learned quite a bit from documentaries and articles related to diabetes. One particular documentary which helped was "Simply Raw" which was produced by Dr. Gabriel Cousens. The second documentary is "Carb Loaded (A Culture Dying to Eat)." I saw both documentaries on FMTV.com which has a two week free trial on their site. You might want to watch them. I also follow Dr. Mercola's website and read his articles. Here is an example: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/ar...in-leptin.aspx Again, I am not trying to get you to do what I am doing. However, it does not hurt to get yourself informed. Yes, there is conflicting information out on the internet. In the end, you will have to make the informed choice for yourself. |

I have such a huge phobia of needles that if I had the choice of injecting myself or death...I'd rather die (I'm NOT joking.)
Why not look into getting an insulin pump? |
