Question Another Newbie

Hi, I'm krissy and i am from North Dakota.

I guess i am type 1 diabetic but not because i was diagnosed as a child but rather because a few years ago pancreatic cancer was found early by sheer luck. However one doctor told me that i didnt need the biopsy because i was far to young at 39 to have that type of cancer. I had the rarer slower growing type that took Steve Jobs. Strange because i remembering learning of his death post surgery when my husband had the news on in my hospital room. Yes i live under a rock and pay more attention to my local news instead of global.

My doctor at the mayo clinic told me to have the A1C test every 3 months and CT done yearly. Since i have become a total doctor phobic and only see my pain management every 3 months as required by law. I went from surgical pain to chronic pain because of all the trauma my body went through recovering.

I hadnt kept up with checking my morning fasting numbers like like my local doctor wanted. Till last year when i felt really crudy after sharing some sweets with my son. So i kept a good record to show fasting, pre-meal, post meal, bedtime and random numbers. She put me on insulin, just one shot a day. It didnt lower it under 100 for morning fast, but it was much better than it was. Like around 120ish.

I havent gone back for refills as she wants me to have a physical and blood work. I hate our local vampires. I am a hard draw, and i hate her digging, and just cant stomach more lab work. The very idea makes my arms and hands hurt and makes me sick to my stomach. After nearly 2 months in the hospital with daily blood draws, sometimes multiple times a day and new IV sites every 2 to 3 days. It just makes my anxiety up the wall. Then thinking about getting an apt this late knowing how long its been makes me run from calling which just adds more time.

The actual shot of a insulin doesn't bother me at all. Its all that other stuff.

I know i need to go back for my insulin, and with the other meds i get the last time my pharmacist called in for refills they told her to have m call in for a physical. Ugggggg

So i started checking my blood sugars again. And they are higher than before. So i am guessing that my pancreas or whats left, as i had 2/3 removed is making even less insulin now.

So i have decided that i need to get serious about my diabetes.... I still dont want that physical, but i need to get more insulin..... Which is why i downloaded this app to my phone. I use a different one to keep track of the times i take my meds. So i figured it would be helpful to have one for blood sugars.

So i read that the food option on this one is to enter carbs. Do i need to track anything else other than carbs? Because of my pancreas issues my body doesnt digest proteins properly so I do eat a higher protein diet. But when i hurt because of my fibro I dont often eat as healthy as i should. But gettingI am starting to serious about my diabetes...... And I am going to work on that.

Do i just need to keep track of carbs?

How exact do i need to be?
Do i need to enter absolutely everything i eat?

Thanks for the help, I'm trying to figure this roller coaster that is twisting through a nightmare out....

Welcome to the Forum!

I am glad that you have decided to start taking better care of your diabetes. Counting the carbs is pretty much all you need to keep up with. The higher proteins is a good thing as well. It is very important to keep your appointments and have the lab work. The A1c test is very important to all people with diabetes.

Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. Good luck with your control and management.
