Default endocrinologist

Do most of you have an endocrinologist ? I haven't gotten one yet, but I think it would be a good idea. Please share your ideas.

I am looking for one too. I want to deal with someone that this is all they do and are focused on this disease. I have only been diagnosed for a little over a week and I have already asked around. They seem to be in high demand so may take a while to get an appt.

I immediately went to an endocrinologist when diagnosed. On my second visit she told me see couldn't understand why I was seeing her. She said my primary care doctor should be managing my diabetes. Even though she criticized primary care for prescribing a med that's no longer used and switched me to MetFORMIN. She also didn't like to hear about side affects. Others experiencing this type of attitude? Thanks.

I am managed by my primary care dr. Even though it is still not being managed well we are still working on it. He said if we couldn't work out the meds and dosing then I will need to go to an endocrinologist. I just hate having so many doctors so this is fine with me. Probably if I see one, once my sugars are in control then I will shift care back to my primary. I mean, really... How many dr bills can I afford to pay every year?

After diagnosis, I was immediately referred to an endocrinologist who was clearly an expert in his field. Reviewed all my data, prescribed an additional med. My blood sugar at the time was 17 - that was 4 mos ago. Saw him again a week ago - he was very pleased with the results - BS now 6 and told me I don't need to see him again unless BS starts going up again

Be careful with choosing your endocrinologist! I had one the put me in the ER because they prescribed too much medication and my sugar level dropped from 103 to 75 with an hour and I was eating glucose tablets, high carbs, and anything else I could get my hands on to increase my sugar. I'm now with an endocrinologist who listens to me but I now research everything they say and meds they give because even though diabetes is easy to diagnosis it is not easy to treat. Everyone is different and if you don't have an endocrinologist that understands that then you won't get any better.
