For lack of a better term, or description, I've named my pancreas the above titled name, and just wanted to throw this out there to see whether or not any others have experienced similar pancreatic behavior. Let me explain.
I seem to experience at least two distinct "modes" in my blood glucose readings, and therefore consequently, in my insulin usage. Without any measurable change in eating habits, physical activity, or any other contributing factors, I will notice that my blood glucose readings will begin either to increase, or decrease, and then consequently, the insulin amounts will necessarily follow suit. I'm not talking about a few points or some minor change. I'm talking significant change. For example: I can be sailing smoothly along requiring for instance, approximately 50 units of Novolin R per meal. Over a matter of perhaps just a couple or a few days, this 50 units (which has been completely adequate for months) is suddenly not nearly enough. So, I begin increasing the amount in order to keep my blood sugar readings down. Sometimes, this takes weeks, even months, to arrive at an amount that once again is adequate in controlling my blood sugars. It is not out of the question, that by the time I've arrived at an amount that now controls my blood sugars, it may be up to twice as much as I previously needed. In other words, what once was controlled by 50 units, may now require 100 units or even more, to control my blood sugars. Then, I may go along in this "state" for months at a time, needing the higher amount of insulin, when suddenly, without warning, I begin experiencing many more low blood sugars or hypoglycemic episodes. So, once again I'm on the roller coaster ride, lowering my insulin amounts until I am again controlling my blood sugars without a lot of hypoglycemic episodes. Last year, I went along sailing smoothly for 6 months or more, needing roughly 45 to 55 units with each meal. Then out of the blue I had to start increasing the amount of insulin and it went as high as 105 to 110 with each meal. That last about 4 or 5 months, and then near the end of that "cycle", I found that sometimes I needed even more, as much as 150 units per meal. About 2 or 3 weeks ago, all of a sudden within a matter of days, my insulin needs once again began dropping as I began having a lot of low blood sugar episodes. Within the past week or two, it has leveled out to about 55 to 70 units per meal, or almost half of what it had been. Though I am grateful to being able to use a smaller amount again, the roller coaster ride of seemingly constantly "chasing" after my blood sugar readings is tiring. And again, I re-ephasize, there is no measurable changes in either my food intake, either amounts or substance, no measurable changes in activity. There are no changes in my life that I can measure that would account for these moderating glucose readings and insulin requirements. I've discussed (or tried to) this with 3 or 4 doctors or so-called diabetes "experts", and they all look at me as if I am crazy. LOL I've researched this online and can find nothing of similar nature being mentioned or discussed. So, I am at a loss, and again, just wondering if anybody else has ever experienced this. |

I have lots of trouble before my period. I am on medication but 2 weeks before my blood sugar goes out of control. I wake up about 20-30 points higher. If I eat an egg it jumps up 50 points. Then never really goes down. I increase meds nothing...Took me forever to figure out what was going on. The only reason I bring this up is you might want to look at outside factors or something that might be happening during those time frames...
