Default realistic rate of decrease in BS

Hi. I've just been diagnosed with T2 on 12/23. My blood sugar was at 400 but as of 12/27 is 160 in the morning and around 200 during the day. I'm taking insulin shots and the pill. I'm frustrated I'm not going to 100 when for the past for days I've changed my diet completely, working out, and taking the medication. Is my expectations unrealistic? How fast should the change in lifestyle and medications work? Any input would be appreciate.

Hi. I've been diagnosed with T2 last April and I have changed my diet since then. The change in my sugar level was gradual, it didn't happen in days or weeks. As far as I can remember, it was after more than a month that I have seen the results that I was happy with! From an average of 200, I am now on 100.

Hang in there and make the changes (diet and exercises) gradual so you can have a better chance of sticking with it. You can do it!

Got an update. I was at 400 a week ago. A few days I was stuck and 200 range and feeling frustrated. Today I'm down to 129. I guess patience is a virtue! Two things I changed: time of day I took my insulin shot. I realize that 30 mins before I eat breakfast is better than 30 mins after. Also started to walk fast vs just leisurely walking for 30 mins. My goal is to get the BP to 100 by January 5th.

Your emotional state has a great impact on your sugar levels. When my mother experienced pain due to trigemynal neuralgia she took as much as 18 units of short term insulin and 38 units of long term insulin. Now that she is no longer in pain, insulin has been reduced to two units of long term insulin and is no longer using daytime insulin and is using pills instead. So keep eating healthy, exercise and try not to worry!

Want to share good news! I have averaged BS of 100-120 for the past 2 months. My A1c came back at 6.1! This is down from 11.2 just 3 months ago. Doctor says I don't have to take insulin shots any more. Very excited. Dieting and exercise works! Yogurt in morning, turkey salad for lunch, eat anything for dinner, and a glass of wine (or two) each day works!!
