Newly diagnosed Type 2
Hi,
My name is Rob, I am 56 and was just diagnosed Type 2 a month ago. I am currently taking 25 units of Lantus at night and 500 mg Metformin in the morning. Watching carbs to try to level out my numbers. One issue that is bothersome right now is that every time I go out to do yard work I end up going low and I need to treat. I've even tried having a snack higher in carbs. Anyone have any suggestions on this? Thanks, Rob |

Welcome to the Forum!
Read through the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, if you have not already done so. These threads will most-likely help you a lot. Self education is one of the keys to successful management of your diabetes, along with a healthy / sensible diet and exercise. Basically, diabetes requires a life-style change for the better. There are several things that you could do to eliminate the low. You can lower your basal dose, lower your morning pill, or adjust your carbs. Discuss any of these with your doctor. Good luck with your control and management.

Hey Rob. How are you making out? Curious because I just got the official word I am Type 2. Starting 250mg of Metformin three time a day tomorrow. Was curious about your experience with it. Anything to watch for?

Hi John
Sorry I've not checked this lately. I am on 500 mg Metformin once a day, but I also am on Lantus. I have not had any of the side effects that I've read about from the Metformin. I am usually one who suffers side effects of meds so I was surprised that I did not with the Metformin. Hope it is going well for you. Rob |

Hi,
I've not posted here lately. In Oct I saw an endo and she was not convinced that my diagnosis of type 2 was correct. So I was tested and I am now diagnosed as type 1. My oral meds are gone and I am now on Lantus for my Basal and Humalog for my Bolus. I am taking 4 to 5 injections a day. My next endo appt is in Feb and I will be looking into getting a Insulin infusion pump. RobS |
