Hey everyone, sometimes for religious purposes we restrain from eating any animal products including meat, dairy, and fish. I was just wondering if there were any specific foods that were high in protein and low carbs that were in the vegan category. I would like to do this because it's for a really important reason. If anybody has some feedback I would appreciate it

Let me explain myself better I am not looking to do atkins or low carb diet I am just trying to avoid a diet of all carbs seeing how a vegan diet for me can be almost all carbs and with my bg it seems to be more sensitive to carbs than sweets. So I just need ideas to introduce more protein during these short periods of vegan diets.

I could be wrong, but I thought that I gave you what you want, it just happened to be listed on a diet page.
"Beans According to the Vegetarian Resource Group, beans are efficient sources of lean protein that can replace meats in the vegetarian diet. They are also low in carbohydrates and contain no saturated fats or cholesterol. Chickpeas, lentils, navy beans and black beans are all high-protein, low-carbohydrate choices. Tofu Tofu is a common meat replacement for vegetarians. This food, made from soybean milk, is an abundant source of protein, according to the Vegetarian Resource Group. Unlike meat replacements that contain wheat, such as tempeh, seitan and most commercially-packaged veggie burgers, tofu is low in carbohydrates. Dairy Products and Eggs Although vegetarians do not eat meat products, most consume eggs, as well as dairy products such as cheese, yogurt and milk. According to the Carbohydrate Counter website, eggs and dairy products are low in carbohydrates. They are also rich sources of protein for vegetarians."

Peanuts, flax and protein shakes with coconut milk and low carb whey. Do you have a good phone app for looking up carbs, proteins etc in foods? Carb Manager is a good one. You look up foods, put them in your favorites. When you eat an item, you click and it subtracts from your daily carb goal plus tells you calories, protein, fat etc. Very easy to use and $2.99.

Scottie, take a look at Fatsecret.com they also have iPhone and android apps. With a smart phone with camera you can scan in barcodes which makes it easy. I used a lot when first started and I lost 80 lbs. I was shocked all the carbs I was eating...healthy ones...beans and whole grains, but my diet was like 70% Carb and the rest split for protein and fat. Now I am at like 60% fat, and rest split between protein and Carb.

Once you become familiar with carbs in things that grow, it's not to hard especially if we correlate what we eat with out sugar readings, Nearly all grains, legumes and fruits are high in carbs and sugar. Most green vegetables are low carbs and things that grow below the ground are high carbs. It becomes a daily scorecard to keep the carbs in line.
