Type 1 or Type 1.5 (LADA)
I'm getting mixed information about the difference between type 1 and LADA. I've been told by two different doctors that I have one or the other. On the one hand, I'm reading that LADA comes on gradually and doesn't require insulin right away. But mine came on within two months, and I was put on insulin immediately. I guess it ultimately doesn't matter, but does anyone have good information on this?

Hi there - my diabetes came on over two/ three months as I lost weight, drank loads, etc - all the classic signs. As I was 50 at the time, I was told it was LADA as type 1 normally appears in much younger people.
You are right though - it doesn't really make any difference. One year on its under control and I feel a lot better. Good luck. |

Me too,
I am 1 1/2 weeks out from being diagnosed. My diabetic educator refined it to 1.5 and put me on insulin immediately- literally got my first shot on the spot with a 404bg.
It is all new and overwhelming. I am glad to find all these sources of support and info. This is an article I found helpful http://forecast.diabetes.org/magazin...ada-or-type-15 Ultimately, I think you should get to a diabetic educator who focuses on that part of your care and has more depth of knowledge. Good luck! |
