Default Eyes Feel Cross Eyed and Blurry Vision

I was newly diagnosed 8 days ago. My A1c was 11.7 and my fasting bg was 247. I started Metforum - 500mg twice a day and Glimepiride 1mg once a day. 3 days after starting meds, my vision went from blurry to feeling cross eyed. I feel like my eyes have no strength and feel weak, like when you relax your eyes and force them to go blurry when looking at a one of those "Find the hidden objects". I have now been on meds for one week, and fasting is still around the 200 mark.

1. Is this normal and will it go away soon?

2. Called Dr and he told me to double the Glimepiride to 1mg twice a day. Will this solve the problem?

I am so concerned that I have been crying all afternoon. Fearful that this is now my permanent vision.

It comes from hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) for long periods of time. Yes, it is somewhat normal and it will go away, when you get your blood glucose level to a more normal level, your eye site should return to normal. Shoot for a normal glucose level of 90 mg/dl to 120 mg/dl, but an average never going above 140 mg/dl would help. The sooner that you do this the better off you will be. I would advise exercise and a change in diet to start. Consider learning to count carbs and read up on the Glycemic Index (GI). Foods with a GI rating of 50 or less will help you get where you need to be. Exercise and a balanced nutritional diet are your best friends right now. Be sure to read the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, they will help you a lot. Good luck with your control and management.

Thank you, I have been trying to read as much as possible, eating more vegetables and proteins. I am gluten free, so I don't eat a lot of carbs that are bread anyways.........but I need to see to work.

If I had over 300 numbers three weeks ago, and eyesight was fine, why would it change once starting the meds and the numbers are actually lower than three weeks ago? I would think that if high blood glucose levels are the culprit, it would have been like this a month ago? Doesn't make sense now that they are coming down and meds, that my vision would go?

My eyes do the opposite. When my bg is high I can't see thru my glasses for distance. But as long as my bg stays around 100 it stays clear and I can see thru my glasses. It is suggested that anyone with diabetics to have a full vision exam including dilation once a year. Sounds like you may need to make an appointment

I am staying between 5 and 7 MMOL but I still get "hazy" vision.

I have put it down to Middle age before now but notice that it clears if I stick to really low numbers for a few days.

I wonder if there is something different from the long term damage associated with really high numbers.

Any ideas?
