hypothyroidism and type 2
Hi, I was diagnosed with type 2 January 2013. I had gestational with my pregnancy in 2008 and again with my second pregnancy in 2011. My daughter was almost 12 lbs!!! Yikes. Diabetes went away but developed hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid). It was great, lost all my baby weight in a week. But unfortunately you can not stay hyperthyroid. So I had radioactive iodine treatment to kill my thyroid now I'm hypothyroid (under active) for life. From 2011 until this year the hypothyroidism made me gain 30 lbs and in January I was diagnosed with type 2. I'm struggling with the two disorders together. My thyroid dr told me I have barely no functioning metabolism. How am I supposed to lose weight and get this diabetes under control if I have another condition making it almost impossible to lose weight? Anyone else hypothyroid and type 2? Curious what diet worked for you if any?

Welcome to the Forum!
I had hypothyroidism and Type 2 diabetes for several years. Now I have hypothyroidism and Type 1.5, insulin dependent. The only diet, for weight loss, that ever worked for me was counting carbs. I also use this to control the diabetes, and the side effect was I lost 60 lbs using this method, along with exercise. Details are listed in the first three threads in the Type 2 Section.
