Joining from Kentucky
I've been reading the forums for a while, figured I may as well introduce myself.
I have type II, diagnosed in 2003. After trying several options I ended up using NovoLog to keep it under control. The Diabetes was caused from being on Prednisone for almost 25 years. Eventually by rearranging my Prednisone dosage and eventually going off it I was able to go completely off diabetes meds for a few years. I knew it would not be forever. Recently my levels have been jumping much higher than I want them to be. I went back in this week and am now back on NovoLog. My choice. I take a lot of different meds, and with the Insulin I can control my levels exactly how I want them to be. One advantage to having been on insulin before is that I already understood the impact, and knew that not only is it possible to live a normal life with insulin, but also that in some cases it may make more sends to use instead of other treatment options. The GB app has been great. Even the Dr was impressed last week with the printouts and data I had gathered prior to going in. -Ryan |

Ryan;
Welcome to the Forum, from a fellow Kentuckian! Are you using the NovoLog, as an injection for carb coverage, at meals?

The NovoLog injections are for meal coverage. Previously that was all that I needed. I am monitoring pretty close right now to see if I will need to add something at night. During the day my Basal seems to be fine. I have been waking up with a higher reading that I want. But one step at a time - once I have my post meal reading under control I can see if I need to add anything else.

It sounds like you are on the right track. I had to go with a 60/40 split basal and post meal boluses to accomplish the full 24 hour coverage. Good luck with getting the control where you want it to be.

What do you use for your Basal? Based on my preliminary readings I will not be surprised if I have to add something in the evening.

Basal Info: Levemir; 60 units morning and 40 units before bed.

What do you print out for your doctor. Logs and graphs?

I printed out the daily (Hour by Hour) graph from the .pdf format, for a typical day. I also printed out the "All" graph, once again from the .pdf. When you do the .pdf option it lays it out in a nice format showing the average, Glucose by event, and gives a place to write observations or questions. It works fairly well.
I liked the Accu Chek compass software printouts a little better, but I haven't gotten around to installing it on the newer computer yet. -Ryan |
