Scary Hypoglycemia Episodes
Recently I went through a diabetic seizure, which hasn't happened in seven years! It all started when I went out one night with a friend for dinner, once I got home I covered for it. I also took my dosage of Lantus, stayed up for another 20 minutes and went to bed. What throws me off so much is I, like others, usually wake up when a low hits me. Which typically I feel when it's in the 50's. But like I said I went to bed and in the morning the people I lived with had to call 911. Paramedic's came and my BS was only 58! They gave me a sugar IV drip and after they brought me up to the 200's I still wouldn't come around. They took me to the hospital, this whole time I am essentially knocked out. I can not answer any of there questions. I have an upcoming appt with my doctor, but has anyone else experienced something like this?

sorry that happened to you, but question - did you drink with dinner? you have to be really careful with alcohol - when I drink, I make sure I wake up several times (I set my alarm for every 2 hours) to check my BG during the night because it actually lowers BG quite a bit 8+ hours after you drink! I would always have hypoglycemic seizures in my sleep after a night where I had more than two drinks. also, are you on a CGM? if you have hypoglycemic seizures and you have insurance, you're definitely a candidate - I've been on both Medtronic and Dexcom and prefer the Dexcom because the sensors last longer, are more comfortable and the readings are a lot more accurate. good luck - it's scary but at least you're not injured!

Dude that's really scary, I haven't been diabetic for very long so I haven't experienced any seizures and I hope not too buying any case that's low but you should've woken up, I think the lowest I've ever been during the night was 34 and I still woke up, I wake up around the mid 50s now

There was a time when I was in better control and between getting more physical work out from my job I blacked out twice. Both times I could not tell you what I did but my sister and a friend who was also diabetic. Apparently you really do act like a drunk. My sister said I kept getting up and grinning then sitting back down and was a little loopy. Also, my nights were low enough that when my parents tried to wake me up...I wouldn't. My Mom told me that my Dad stood me up and I would just crumble to the floor. He slapped me and nothing...my father is a pretty big guy too. My Mom finally called a former doctor. I don't know what caused it but when I was in the hospital, we always got a snack before bed. Half a sandwich and a diet soda. That may help, but I'm not sure what caused the black outs. My lowest BG that I know of.. 32 so maybe I was lower than that. I'm trying the snack thing at night again now. Please let me know how you are doing tho. I know it was a scary time for my family and the doctor said I was close to slipping into a diabetic coma. Be careful...and maybe talk to an endo doctor
