juicing
Has anyone ever try it? What juices work/don't work for you. I am trying a mostly green juice in the morning and at lunch. So far my sugars have been pretty stable at the 100-130 range (I have been on it for a little under 2 weeks). But I must say, I am still getting hungry being that I use to pig out when I ate..I find it working for me because it's hard for me to eat greens and by juicing them, they go down easier.

My mother swears by juicing and "eating raw" aka whole foods, avoiding the microwave and restaurants. Any time I had juices with fruit in them my sugars would skyrocket, even if it was one small apple with green leafies like kale. I like the juice, just didn't seem to find a balance.

Omg I love love love my juicer. I'm type 1 & have been for awhile now. Have had my juicer almost a year. I try to stick with a green juice and my bs aren't negatively affected. My green juice has spinach kale celery cucumber orange lemon ginger & green apples. I've even done all green juice for 3days & bs were fine. I think better than eating food. Lol. 2.5cups of green juice I need 1 unit of fast acting insulin.

I have been making the green juice from Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr. I use greens and add a lemon for me and then juice an apple into the mix for my husband. I have some blueberries or a little oatmeal also when I am going to workout. I am curious to how many carbs the juice is for 8 ounces.

as long as you keep your dietary fat very low, juicing is totally fine and you shouldn't spike too much. it's when carbs combine with fat that I typically have issues with spiking - otherwise, the simple carbs are covered fully by rapid insulin as long as your ratios are good.
I love juicing and I love fruit. low carb is not healthy, your body needs carbs - not in the form of processed grains - but high carb, low fat diets are amazing, especially for athletes - you should check out Douglas Graham's book 80/10/10 - I never had so much control over my diabetes than when I followed this diet - 80% of your calories are from carbs, 10% from protein and 10% from fat - I was eating nearly DOUBLE the carbs, had a ton of energy, and my insulin actually DECREASED because of the very low fat. no, I do not work for Douglas Graham and I'm not promoting his ideas - just thought the diet was interesting and it made me take a look at OTHER factors in my diet that contribute to hyperglycemia outside of carbs. |
