Default new to diabetes am I headed on the right path?

Hi everyone!!

I'm 30 years old and about 6 months ago found out I have diabetes. My doctor started me out on Metformin. twice a day.

I watch my sugar as much as possible. I try not to eat Sugars. However its extremely hard to eat something without ANY sugar. I find that if I eat something with 1 or 2 grams of sugar my numbers stay ok. I have been watching my sugars and my reading is about 107-118 before I eat. Two after after I ate (like tonight) I am at 133. This still seems high...doesn't it? I was due to go back to the doctor about a month ago (I forgot) and I am headed back to the doctor at the end of this month. Eager to hear what he has to say.

Its been hard to realize I actually have diabetes. I have been trying to diet (yes, I am overweight). The side effects I have right now are a burning sensation in my legs from time to time. Before I was diagnosed I would get the tingling sensation in my fingers after I ate high amounts of Sugar. However, now that I do not eat sugar that sympton has gone away for the most part. Anyone ever had this?

I read constantly on web forums how people lose limbs, go blind, etc etc. It scares the hell out of me. I'm 30 and want to live a long life with my family. I won't lie. I'm scared.

I just hope I'm on the right track...I know I still need to improve.

Welcome to the Forum!

Read the first three threads in the Type 2 Section, when you get a chance, they will most-likely help you a lot.

You are close to being on track. Try to keep your fasting blood sugar between 70-99, during the day between 100-120, try to never go over 140. If you can do that, you are pretty close to normal. Implement an exercise routine into your daily life. Good luck with your control and management.
